I bought a 6' Belkin USB cord from a Big Box store to hook up my Akai MPK49 MIDI keyboard (piano). The cord allows two-way communication with a DAW program and powers the keyboard (no transformer needed). The Big Box cord did not sufficiently allow powering and the keyboard was quirky and then quit. The present Belkin cord bought from Amazon has worked fine however. So, yes, there is a difference between USB cords for some applications. -- works with MIDI keyboard
